About NSPRA
NEW in 2024: As NSPRA introduces the Emerging Leaders Award, the association is sunsetting the 35 Under 35 recognition while still reflecting the best aspects of the honor in a new, more expansive and inclusive award. These changes were inspired by member insights gathered by the NSPRA Awards Task Force.
The most rewarding part about working in school PR has been the opportunity to work in a career that helps support student education. From collaborating with administrators to ensuring staff have what they need to be successful, I love knowing that our work is helping support student learning and growth. My favorite part about this work is the opportunity to share the many stories of the school district. I also love learning about the communities we serve. Each of the school districts I have worked for has been unique and has introduced me to people who have made me a little better at my job. I feel grateful for the chance to connect with people within my district and each of the communities we serve.
The most challenging part about working in school PR is that we wear many hats! Between communication, marketing, public relations, community relations, and crisis, there is never a short supply of work to do. I approach these challenges by blocking off time for certain projects to ensure they all fit into my calendar.
The most fulfilling professional experience for me is helping tell a school district’s story. There are so many amazing students, teachers, staff, and administration in each of our schools and I feel honored to be able to help share those stories with the communities we serve. I also love when the stories we share help to connect people within the school district and community. Another fulfilling experience for me has been being a part of NSPRA and my local chapter INSPRA (Illinois). I have met so many colleagues who have become close friends and I am forever grateful to these organizations for bringing school PR professionals together. Being able to connect with others who understand our unique career has truly been so helpful to me during my time in school PR.
