Communication Planning and Strategic Tactics for Releasing High-Stakes Test Scores
Communication Planning and Strategic Tactics for Releasing High-Stakes Test Scores, published by NSPRA via a grant from the Learning First Alliance (LFA), is part of LFA’s GET IT RIGHT campaign attempting to bring common sense to the standards movement.
The 26-page guidebook was developed to assist school leaders in releasing any brand of high-stakes testing they use in their state or systems. The first section features four NSPRA PR Pros answering 5 questions on the release of test scores. Topics include releasing scores to staff first and then parents; results when taking a new test; dealing with testing challenges; PR principles on releasing test scores; and comparing your districts’ scores with others.
NSPRA experts answering the questions are Dr. Nora Carr, APR (Gilford County Schools in North Carolina), Tom Hagley, Jr. (Vancouver Public Schools in Washington, Ron Koehler, APR, (Kent Intermediate School District in Michigan), and Tom Salter (Montgomery Public Schools in Alabama).
The second section includes a planning guide dealing with testing issues, and covers the areas of research, framing messages, creating understandable analogies, setting strategies, and the need to avoid a cookie-cutter approach. This informative section was written by Edward H. Moore, APR, an educational communications counselor with more than 25 years’ experience, former NSPRA Associate Director and the author of more than 3 books on school public relations.
NEW: There's now also a slide presentation based on the topics in this booklet.
