What’s involved in a Communication Review?

  1. SCoPE School Survey: We’ll start our high-level review with our partner’s SCoPE School Survey for staff and parents. One effective aspect of our research is our partner’s online SCoPE Survey — or our School Communication Performance Evaluation. In our survey, we invite your staff and parents to answer relevant questions about their preferences, perceptions and ideas. And we’ll show you our results in a report that gives you easy-to-understand data to help you evaluate how you’re doing and to see where you most need to improve. We’ll even compare your results to other districts nationwide to help put your progress in context.
  2. Interviews and Focus Groups:
    • In two phone/virtual interviews, we’ll interview your superintendent and a selected school leader. (Note: Smaller school systems that meet the eligibility guidelines and that have a communications officer/director can include that staff member as an interview.)
    • In three virtual focus groups, we’ll meet with your parents and parent leaders, teachers and other support staff you identify.
  3. District Materials Review:
    • We’ll examine 10 samples of your communication materials, both the ones you use internally and those you send to parents.
    • We’ll look at your communication policies, plans and crisis plans.
    • We’ll also analyze your website, social media and 10 samples of news clips on key issues.

How long does this all take?

Usually between 12 to 15 weeks.

What long-lasting tools do you get at the end?

  • Communication Review Summary Report: After we’ve completed our review, we’ll deliver a focused summary report that:
    • Outlines key findings of focus groups and interviews,
    • Pinpoints your district’s strengths and spots for improvements, and
    • Lists recommendations based on our research and best practices.
  • SCoPE School Survey Report: In the summary report of the SCoPE School Survey, we’ll give you detailed data and responses from our questions. We’ll include a digital copy of the NSPRA Rubrics of Practice and Suggested Measures as well.
  • Online Resources: Plus, we’ll provide you with online resources linked to each recommendation that will help you gain a fuller picture of steps to improve over time.

Who should have a Communication Review?

If you have up to 3,500 students enrolled, an NSPRA Communication Review is perfect for you.

Or if you have up to 5,000 students, but don’t have a communication person on staff, you could also benefit from a Communication Review.
