NSPRA Executive Board Opening: Vice President at Large for Advocacy

Author: NSPRA Staff/Thursday, April 16, 2026/Categories: News

NSPRA’s Executive Board—made up of elected and appointed officers—helps guide the work of the association and advance its mission to support professionals in communicating strategically, building trust and strengthening relationships in their school communities.

The Executive Board appoints vice presidents at large to two-year terms to provide it with membership representation or expertise that is not provided through the election process. This year, the board has been working to define the focus of its next vice president at large, who will assume office after Julia Burgos, APR (pictured), concludes her second term as NSPRA vice president at large for engagement in September.

To strengthen NSPRA’s voice and visibility on issues that matter most, the board has identified advocacy as the focus for its next appointed vice president at large, beginning Oct. 1, 2026, in alignment with the 2025–2028 Strategic Plan. In this role, the vice president at large for advocacy will:

  • Fulfill the responsibilities for all vice presidents at large as outlined in NSPRA Policy 205.013.
  • Help to determine and monitor the advocacy issues of importance to NSPRA members.
  • Help to define the process to use in determining and prioritizing issues of importance.
  • Participate in an advocacy conference hosted by a partner organization.
  • Engage with NSPRA staff in supporting the advocacy efforts of the Learning First Alliance, in which NSPRA is a member.
  • With support from NSPRA staff, become familiar with NSPRA’s work to date advocating on issues (for example, social media safety) and with allowable levels of advocacy for NSPRA as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Professional members who are interested in serving in this role should complete the short questionnaire below by Friday, May 8. The Executive Board anticipates approving an appointee during its regular meeting in July. This position's term will begin on Oct. 1, 2026, and conclude on Sept. 30, 2028.
