Use this list to help your team talk about common facility-related concerns in ways that build public understanding and urgency—without jumping straight to solutions. These examples can guide your messaging and planning as you prepare for budget conversations or community updates.

  • Aging infrastructure: Outdated buildings and systems create safety risks and hinder student learning. Leaving these issues unaddressed sends the message that students and staff deserve less-than-ideal conditions.
  • Worn-out athletic spaces: Gyms, fields, stadiums, and locker rooms in disrepair affect more than athletics—they impact student experience, erode school pride, and decrease community connection.
  • HVAC issues: Unreliable heating and cooling makes it harder for students to focus and stay healthy. Air quality and classroom comfort are foundational to learning.
  • Roof deterioration: Leaks and damage disrupt learning and increase repair costs over time. These issues signal neglect and put long-term building integrity at risk.
  • Outdated electrical systems: Old wiring limits classroom technology, raises safety concerns, and prevents upgrades. It sends a message that the district isn’t prepared for modern learning.
