The 2023-24 New Professionals track is now full. Please email NSPRA Manager of Member Engagement and Professional Development Melissa McConnell at mmcconnell@nspra.org to be added to the waitlist and/or for more information about future New Professional cohorts.
Have you been working in school communications for less than 4 years? Do you come from an industry outside of education and/or communications? Are you struggling to understand what should take priority in your day-to-day work? Are you looking for support, guidance and advice on your current school communications practices?
If any of your answers are “yes,” then NSPRA's New Professionals Academy is for you!
During the eight-month program, participants will work with the course facilitator, NSPRA's Manager of Professional Development and Member Engagement Melissa McConnell to understand the role of communications in a school district, including education-specific learning, building a library of resources, best practices for daily communications as well as in crisis, creating a contingency plan for others in their absence, and more. Each module will have current school communications professionals and/or superintendents as co-hosts to lead discussions, share best practices, and answer questions.
Participants also will complete a capstone project: Create a comprehensive professional development plan to continue their growth, as well as either a plan to present at a conference or submit their work for an award.
Classes will be held virtually once a month on Friday for two hours from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. EST; the schedule is as follows:
Friday, September 8, 2023: Through the Superintendent’s Eyes
Friday, October 13, 2023: The 4 Rs: Research, Reference, Review and Relationships
Friday, November 3, 2023: Being Strategic with Effective Communications Plans
