2018-2019 Superintendents to Watch-Jonathan Davis

Jonathan Davis
Circleville (Ohio) City School District

For Jonathan Davis, Twitter is the optimal platform to connect with his district and build strong relationships. On a daily basis, Davis leads the charge on the platform by promoting all things “Tiger Culture” through motivational tweets, sending out event reminders, facilitating #SuperintendentChat nights and collaborating with peers and fellow educators online.

He regularly contributes to the district blog, The Red and Black Report, and subsequently shares those posts on social media. All his information can be found easily on the Superintendent Corner page of the district website.

As superintendent, Davis carries with him an interpersonal approach to leadership with a mantra of “investing in people, not programs.”

Over the summer of 2018, Davis led a team of district personnel and teachers in the development of the Tiger Culture Playbook, a resource guide for staff that outlines what the district believes, how they behave and the experience their behavior produces for others and their students. The Tiger Culture Playbook serves as the foundation on which the school district is built. With the playbook, Davis made a point to use communication in its efforts to develop the students of tomorrow through academic innovation and advancement, community and parent engagement, and student success.

For instance, during the 2017-18 school year, he incorporated feedback from strategic planning sessions to launch the district’s new website and an updated social media app to help stakeholders rally around students and their families in the upcoming years and reach their fullest potential.

Davis invests in each individual of his district through the personal birthday cards he hand writes for every district employee and the way he uses Twitter to extend learning online and after hours. As his district can attest, he is a true example of public service, leadership and excellence.
