Following are answers to some questions you may have about in-person attendance at the NSPRA 2022 National Seminar, the virtual Seminar and COVID-19 safety. If you cannot find an answer to your questions below, please email your inquiry to seminar@nspra.org.

In-Person Attendee Questions

What are the dates of the NSPRA 2022 National Seminar?

  • The National Seminar kicks off on the morning of Sunday, July 17, and concludes after lunch on Wednesday, July 20. Anyone registering for the full Seminar will be eligible to attend July 17-20. View the Seminar Schedule at a Glance (In Person) for more details. In-person Seminar attendees also may wish to register for the onsite pre-Seminar workshops, which will be offered for additional fees on Saturday, July 16, and Sunday, July 17. 

When and how can I register for the in-person Seminar in Chicago?

What’s included in the registration for the in-person Seminar?

  • Full registration for the in-person Seminar includes a variety of receptions, mixers and networking events from Sunday-Wednesday as well as all educational sessions (i.e., Skill Sessions, Amplify Sessions) on Monday-Wednesday, two General Sessions with keynote speakers on Monday and Tuesday, and access to the in-person sponsor and exhibitor Marketplace.   • Anyone who registers for the in-person Seminar also has access to the virtual Seminar experience, in case plans to attend in person have to change suddenly.

What is the cost to register for the in-person Seminar?

  • Registration for the in-person and virtual Seminars are the same price, but a variety of registration rates and packages are available: 
    • Super early bird registration rates are available until March 31. 
    • Early bird registration rates are available April 1 - May 31. 
    • Anyone registering on or after June 1 will register at the regular rates.
    • Discounted rates are available for NSPRA members, for communication professionals whose superintendents first register to attend, and for multi-person communication teams, as detailed below. NSPRA also grants a regional discount to the Seminar based on the site location. 
      • To get the NSPRA member rate, simply enter the email address tied to your NSPRA membership when you register for the Seminar. If you are a current member (or if you opt to join or renew your membership at the time of registration), the member rate will be applied automatically to your order.
      • To get the Superintendent + Communication Pro Combo rate:
        • Register the superintendent first to receive a discount code good for $300 off the registration of the school district's communication professional. The superintendent will receive the discount code in a registration confirmation email.
        • The communication professional must enter that discount code when registering for the Seminar. 
      • To get the multi-person communication team rates, simply "Add Additional Attendees" when prompted in the online Seminar registration system.
      • Registrants in the NSPRA North Central Region states of Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and the Canadian provinces Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario also are eligible for a $100 discount. The discount will be applied automatically based on registrants' addresses.

What forms of payment are accepted?

  • The Seminar registration system accepts credit card payments (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) and purchase orders (PO). The PO number and a PDF of the PO must be uploaded at the time of registration. 

What is your cancelation policy?

  • Seminar registrants are charged $200 for cancelations received by May 29, $300 for cancelations from May 30-June 12, and after June 12, there is no refund. 
  • For pre-Seminar workshops, registrants are charged 25% of the registration fee for cancelations received by May 29, 50% for cancelations from May 30-June12, and after June 12, there is no refund.
  • Those who register to attend the Seminar in person may switch to attending the Seminary virtually, or vice versa, without any financial penalty.

Can I move my in-person Seminar registration to the virtual event?

  • Yes, you may transfer your in-person registration to the virtual event with no penalty. All in-person registrants will receive information on how to access the virtual event platform.

Are attendee substitutions permitted?

  • Yes, attendee substitutions are permitted. Please contact NSPRA at seminar@nspra.org for more information. 

What food and beverages are served during the in-person Seminar? 

  • NSPRA provides complimentary beverages such as coffee and soda during scheduled breaks between sessions. View the Seminar Schedule at a Glance (In Person) for more details on break times. 
  • During hosted receptions, a variety of light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar are typically available. 
  • The NSPRA President Installation and Gold Medallion Awards Ceremony Luncheon on Wednesday, July 20, is open to all in-person Seminar attendees, but an additional registration fee of $45 is required.
  • New in 2022, lunchtime networking events with boxed lunches will be held inside the Seminar hotel and open to all in-person attendees on Monday, July 18, and Tuesday, July 19. Boxed lunches (sandwich, chips, drink) are available for purchase for an additional registration fee of $22/boxed lunch.  The boxed lunches are also available for purchase to registrants who plan to attend the exclusive APR Brown Bag Networking Session, offered by invitation only to those who have earned accreditation in public relations (APR). 
  • There are a variety of dining options in and around the Sheraton Grand Chicago, including a Link @Sheraton Cafe featuring Starbucks beverages and snacks. 

How do I make a room reservation at the Seminar hotel?

What are the safety measures being taken due to COVID-19?

  • Effective Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, the City of Chicago is requiring any individual age 5 and older to show proof of vaccination to use public indoor places, including dining (restaurants, bars, hotel ballrooms, etc.), fitness and entertainment/recreation venues where food or beverages are served. (Learn more about this public health order.) The safety protocols for the in-person Seminar will align with the recommendations of the city and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the time of the Seminar. NSPRA will clearly communicate those safety protocols, as well as any updates or changes, to registrants as details become available.

What are the options for attending sessions onsite? 

  • NSPRA is taking guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Sheraton Grand Chicago on how to set each meeting room. Capacities may be affected, and attendees may not be able to attend a session if the room is at capacity. If a particular meeting room is at capacity, an in-person attendee can attend an alternative in-person session or view a variety of sessions in the virtual Seminar platform. 

How can I join the online conversation about the NSPRA 2022 National Seminar?

What is the dress code for the Seminar? 

  • Most attendees wear business casual attire at the Seminar. There will be opportunities for networking and receptions, as well as local nightlife, so you may want to pack at least one outfit for dressing up.

  • Registration for the virtual Seminar includes access to live streamed General Sessions with keynote speakersAmplify Sessions, Skills Sessions, the Marketplace, interactive games, and online chats with other attendees and presenters during breakout sessions and in virtual lounge rooms. It also includes 30-day access to on-demand Sessions after the Seminar. More details  on the Seminar Schedule at a Glance (Virtual) will be available in the coming weeks. 
  • Anyone who registers for the virtual Seminar may switch to the in-person Seminar experience if plans change up until Friday, July 1.

COVID-19 Safety Questions

What are the safety measures being taken due to COVID-19?

  • The safety protocols for the in-person Seminar will align with the recommendations of the City of Chicago and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the time of the Seminar. NSPRA will clearly communicate those safety protocols, as well as any updates or changes, to registrants as details become available. Effective Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, the City of Chicago ended its indoor masking and proof of vaccination requirements for public spaces (learn more).

Do I need to wear a mask while attending in-person Seminar sessions and other public events?

  • The safety protocols for the in-person Seminar will align with the recommendations of the City of Chicago and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the time of the Seminar.  Effective Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, the City of Chicago ended its indoor masking and proof of vaccination requirements for public spaces (learn more). 

Will NSPRA provide masks at the in-person Seminar? 

Will I need to stay 6 feet apart from others?

How will NSPRA monitor in-person Seminar attendees for COVID-19?

  • All Seminar attendees are responsible for monitoring their own health. NSPRA asks that all in-person Seminar attendees who start to feel sick or to display COVID-19 symptoms:
  • All registrants must acknowledge their understanding of this requirement during the registration process.

Do I have to sign a COVID-19 waiver to attend the Seminar in person?

  • Yes, NSPRA is requiring all registrants to sign a COVID-19 waiver stipulating that they will abide by all requirements to reduce the transmission of COVID-19; that they are not experiencing, or have not previously within the past five days experienced, any symptoms associated with COVID-19; and that they will self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19.

Will there be sanitizer or hand-washing stations available?

What happens if someone develops COVID-19 symptoms during the Seminar? 

  • NSPRA asks that all in-person Seminar attendees who start to feel sick or to display COVID-19 symptoms remain in their hotel rooms and notify the NSPRA office at seminar@nspra.org. NSPRA will help that person with next steps. 

Will NSPRA notify in-person attendees if a fellow in-person attendee notifies NSPRA staff of a positive test result for COVID-19 during the Seminar?

  • Yes, NSPRA will send an alert to in-person attendees if an attendee tests positive for COVID-19 during the event. 

Do I have to show evidence of vaccination and/or a negative COVID-19 test to attend the Seminar in person? 

  • The safety protocols for the in-person Seminar will align with the recommendations of the City of Chicago and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the time of the Seminar. Effective Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, the City of Chicago ended its indoor masking and proof of vaccination requirements for public spaces (learn more). 

Since room capacities may be limited by social distancing restrictions, will I have access to the virtual Seminar if a particular session is full? 

  • Yes, much of the in-person Seminar content will be available in the virtual experience. If an in-person session is full due to capacity restrictions, NSPRA will ask additional attendees to participate in the virtual offerings.

Will there be daily health checks?

  • No, NSPRA will not be conducting daily health checks. If you start to display COVID-19 symptoms, please stay in your hotel room and notify the NSPRA office at seminar@nspra.org
