Pursuing Your APR During a Pandemic: An Update from NSPRA's Accreditation Committee

If you have been preparing to earn accreditation in public relations (APR),  you may be wondering whether you can proceed during this time. The answer is yes!

The NSPRA Accreditation Committee, comprised of NSPRA members from various regions, has been in close touch with the Universal Accreditation Board (UAB), which oversees APR Panel Presentations and the computer-based APR exam, and has continued to meet and plan ways that we can support you as you pursue your APR.

We want to encourage you to keep going if you have already started your APR journey, and if you have been thinking about pursuing your APR, there has never been a better time to get started!

Here are some resources and new information that we hope will help you:

  • to succeed in the world of PR it takes a proAn online study course (https://online2learn.net/APR/) allows you to connect with other APR candidates from your home. Many NSPRA members who have earned their APR in recent years have taken advantage of this opportunity.
  • The NSPRA Accreditation Committee is exploring providing a virtual APR workshop of some kind this summer to replace the Pre-Seminar Workshop that would have been available at the NSPRA 2020 National Seminar. Stay tuned for more details in the coming days.
  • The NSPRA Accreditation Committee recently compiled a list of mentors who are willing to provide guidance and support as you study and prepare for your panel presentation. Please reach out to the APR Committee member closest to your regions, and we will match you with an APR mentor.
  • The UAB is now allowing virtual Panel Presentations for the first time. In fact, several NSPRA members have completed and passed online Panel Presentations since the shelter-in-place protocols began in March!
  • The UAB has informed us that it is exploring virtual proctoring efforts with Prometric and should have more announcements to provide in the coming weeks about how you can take the Computer-Based Examination remotely once you have passed your Panel Presentation. We will provide more information on that as soon as it is available.

Please feel free to reach out to any of us if you have questions about earning your APR.

Sincerely,

The NSPRA Accreditation Committee
