Heidi Vega

Current title: Director of communications, Arizona School Boards Association, Phoenix, Ariz.

Alma Mater: University of Phoenix.

My PR motto: Always tell the truth and learn from the mistakes of others.

I am inspired by…true selflessness and people who believe in helping others in all ways in life. Mentoring others has been the best gift I have received, which I now do my best to give back.

Favorite professional fantasy: Motivational speaker.

Current communication tool I use the most is…my iPhone.

Communication tool I rarely use anymore is…office phone (land line)

Greatest PR success: To be part of an organization that advocates on behalf of school district members at the Arizona State Legislature and all levels of government in support of public education.

Greatest communication challenge: Supporting local public schools begins with voting for lawmakers that believe and advocate for public education, and contacting your local legislators on governmental actions makes a huge difference in how they vote at the state-level.

A strong communication program supports student success by…being data driven and identifying the customer requirement.

My favorite part of my job is…working with all school districts throughout the state and meeting people that believe in and are passionate about public education.

I believe school PR/communications is…transparent, two-way and 24 hours.

Joining ASPRA helped me…learn from the best PR professionals across the state who specialize in many different functions of communications.

I’m an NSPRA member because…networking and benchmarking across the nation is vital in continuous improvement.

My epitaph: The Sky is the Limit!
