JOB TITLE: Director of Marketing
REPORTS TO: Sr. Executive Director of Public Affairs
SALARY: Based on State and Local Salary Schedules
STATUS: Permanent, 12 months, Classified, Exempt
SUMMARY: The Director of Marketing leads Durham Public Schools in developing marketing and promotional DPS competitively to help increase student enrollment through creative and strategic marketing. This position oversees a comprehensive marketing program, utilizing various tactics including advertising — digital and traditional, social media, experiential, print, etc. — to achieve district and Office of Public Affairs goals and objectives. The Director of Marketing is integral in telling the DPS story, sharing impactful, relevant, and engaging narratives that inform and influence.
RESPONSIBIITIES & DUTIES:
1. Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate DPS integrated marketing, advertising, and public relations initiatives across multiple channels to advance the district’s mission and goals.
2. Identify and promote marketable strengths among the district’s schools, students, employees, initiatives, and programs through marketing and promotional activities.
3. Collaborate with DPS departments/programs to execute marketing plans that align with the district’s strategic plan.
4. Use innovative marketing strategies to build relationships among stakeholders and enhance DPS’s reputation.
5. Raise awareness for and strengthen the DPS brand among all stakeholders, both internal and external.
6. Direct the production of district and school marketing materials and publications to best represent the district to various audiences to support student retention and recruitment.
7. Support the Office of Public Affairs with storytelling and content creation promoting the achievements of students and staff to engage stakeholders.
8. Work with Director of Strategic Communication and Digital Communications Specialist to coordinate outreach efforts that will positively impact DPS’s marketing and communication initiatives.
9. Develop, plan, and budget for targeted advertising and marketing opportunities.
10. Monitor and provide metrics for marketing campaigns to track and measure effectiveness of strategies and marketing tools.
11. Plan, coordinate, and direct selected district special events (both small and large) that attract media coverage and attendance of key groups such as elected officials, corporate sector leaders, K-12 leaders, and community-based organizations.
12. Manage vendor relationships in the event contracted support is required to achieve marketing objectives.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, advertising, communication, or a related field. Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in marketing and communications, including expertise in the development and implementation of strategic marketing, communication, and branding plans is required.

15. Ability to perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and displaying emotional distress and adapt when confronted with emergency situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, adding machines, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
